School Field Trips: GEM MINE EXPEDITION A special Earth Science “hands on” learning experience that’s both educational and fun has been developed by our staff with the assistance of a professional educator. The programs are geared towards the specific grade levels in conjunction with Common Core Standards and competency goals. |

SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS: GEM MINE EXPEDITION All school field trips include an interactive educational presentation and a FREE WAGON RIDE through the park. Students will receive a free identification card, a bag for their treasures, and a “rock hound” certificate. There’s plenty of parking, shady picnic areas, clean restrooms, a covered picnic pavilion (free for your use with groups of 15 or more - reservation required). The water flume (sluice) is covered and has lighting & fans for your comfort - rain or shine. Our general store has a variety of drinks, and snacks, and the kids love the souvenirs. The discount price for school field trips is $7 per person for one gallon gem bags or $8 for fossil bags. We can also do specialty 2/3 gallon bags for $6 each. You can add a break-open geode for $1 extra for a great follow-up school or home activity. Salty Dog Gem Mine is located at WagonMaster Adventure Ranch, a family-oriented FUN PARK which provides wholesome outdoor activities for all ages. We are located just West of Murphy, NC. 3 1/2 miles from Fields of the Wood Bible Park. See the map on this website. PLAN to be onsite at least 2 1/2 hours for a field trip to include mining, a presentation, and wagon ride plus more time if you bring a bag lunch. The younger children may need more time for mining.
